New Kindergarten Model
The Deer Valley Unified School District and Mountain Shadows is excited to announce it will be offering incoming kindergarten students a new blended kindergarten experience beginning in the 2013-14 school year.
New Kindergarten Blended Model
• In order to better serve the learning needs of kindergarten students, DVUSD is moving to a blended kindergarten-based model.
• Tuition paid students will remain all day with the same general education teacher beginning next school year.
• DVUSD kindergarten classrooms include innovative technology –iPads, SMART Boards, and more.
• Tuition-Based (Qualifies as Tax Credit) $400 for married and $200 for single individual. Tax credit reduces your tax burden to Arizona dollar for dollar.
• Sign up now – teacher staffing will be based on the 2013-14 projected kindergarten and extended day enrollments.
• Transportation will be provided to all qualified kindergarten students who live over 1/2 mile from school.
• Half day kindergarten will continue to be offered.

Kindergarten Registration
Deer Valley will welcome the class of 2026 at kindergarten registration. Parents are invited to visit their neighborhood school’s office to register for kindergarten. To download registration forms or find out which school your child will attend; refer to the boundary map section on the district website, www.dvusd.org. Students need to be 5 years old by August 31. Early registration is important as schools plan staffing needs for next school year.
Parents will need to bring: original birth certificate or a certified copy; immunization records; proof of residence (utility bill, house payment receipt, rent receipt, escrow document or lease agreement); identification; and legal guardian or custody papers if applicable. Families that live outside the district boundaries can enroll their child for a DVUSD school by filling out an open enrollment form and bringing it to the school of their choice.
Our 6th Graders are Moving On!!!
The sixth graders are being promoted and moving on to Middle School. We would like to celebrate this with various activities at the end of the year. Here’s what’s going on:
Wednesday, May 22nd
9:00 – 9:35 6th Grade Breakfast (held in the cafeteria for STUDENTS ONLY)
9:45 – 10:45 6th Grade versus Staff Volleyball (Parents are welcome)
Thursday, May 23rd
9:00 – 10:30 6th Grade Promotion w/ Slide Show; Honors Assembly
10:30 – 12:00 6th Grade Picnic & Games (burgers & dogs, chips, soda)
Games: Water Balloon Toss, Ice Cube Melt, Sponge Race,
Plug the Leak, Jump Rope Splash, Frozen T-shirt
** Volunteers: We are still in need of about 10-12 parents to help with the games and handing out food. SAGE is an opportunity for identified gifted students to spend time with their intellectual peers. The gifted program is designed to accelerate and enrich the curriculum. Students will participate in daily replacement in self-contained groupings for ELA and or Math in grades 3-6.
SAGEis a content replacement program in ELA and Math for identified gifted students in grades 3-6. Students meet daily in a self-contained groupings, in lieu of general education classrooms to receive their instruction in English Language Arts and/or math from an endorsed gifted teacher. SAGE offers an environment of like minds for the duration of a full class period in ELA and/or math.
