Greetings!

Welcome to 6th Grade Science & ELA! I look forward to meeting my future 6th graders, and I can't wait to get the school year started! In class, I'll be teaching dual subjects...so I plan on using both computers and a paper/pencil format for ELA & grammar references, quick writes & journaling. In science, students will have a hands on approach to learning, while keeping a science notebook for data and science notes.

If you have some extra time, please get familiar with our classroom webpage, as I'll be referring to it throughout the school year. I like to link study aids such as videos and games, and post pictures of what's happening in class. The more you know, the better you'll be able to assist a fellow classmate (which helps me out a lot).

I do have a few suggestions to help you prepare for 6th grade:

Find and know your class schedule. (Located in PowerSchool)
Be able to access & log into Canvas. (Click here for Canvas video directions). I will use this platform, but NOT 100% of the time.
Check the supply list. (You WILL need a total of 3 hard cover composition books or spiral notebooks for ELA (2) and science (1).)
Get a good night's sleep.
Arrive to school with an attitude like a PROTON = always positive!

Mrs. Sabrina LeBlond, M.Ed

There's something I would like to share about myself... I love school! I always have since I was a child. I love school so much, that I attended all three universities in Arizona. I received a B.A. in Media Arts/Journalism from the University of Arizona. A Post-Bac in Elementary Education from ASU West, and a Masters in Elementary Education from NAU. But, do you know what's amazing? Even though I hold these degrees...there's still so much to learn about education! Therefore, I'm always learning. And, what I learned through all my years of teaching, is that education is always evolving. Which leads me to my teaching philosophy..."Treat students fairly, not equally."

With that said, I've been teaching in Deer Valley since 1998, my entire teaching career. I have taught 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 6th grade. I'm honored to be a part of the Mountain Shadows family, and I look forward to meeting my students, new staff, and building a community of learners.

Well, as much as I enjoy school, I don't always spend my time here. I do like to step outside, and I love spending time with my husband and two kids. We enjoy hiking, running, camping and cross country and track. My daughter attends the University of Oregon as a student-athlete running cross country and track. So, you'll probably hear me talk about my daughter's experiences throughout the year. Our family also includes our four dogs...Glory, Josie, Olive, and Minnie. Three of them are rescues and they're a lot of fun to be around. Here's a fun fact! I hiked the John Muir Trail, which begins in California at Mt. Whitney and ends in Yosemite = 300+ miles! At the end of this backpacking trip, I was so hungry that I ate a half dozen chocolate, frosted doughnuts. It was a great experience...the hiking, not the doughnuts.
